Saturday morning around 3am I woke up with labor pains/contractions. I wasn't sure at this point. I started timing them...in the dark writing the times down...so that my Cowboy could get a good night's sleep for his birthday. Remember this was our last weekend together and his birthday. The contractions were very random.
I called the hospital around 8am and they said drink water and that would help. It did for a few rounds. So we decided to start organizing things, pack up, and head out.
We arrived to the hospital around 1pm. I was already dilated 3-4 cm and we were staying!!!!!
At 6pm I was 6 cms dilated....and the pics stopped. Kendalyn's heartrate dropped and the discussion of a c-section started. The nurses turned off the pitocin but her heartrate was never where they wanted it to be.
Things were looking better after an hour or 2 and everything started up again. The nurses checked and we were at 10 cm at 10pm. We started to push and Kendalyn's heartrate dropped and we found that she was not coming out correctly and there was a possiblility that the umbilical cord was around her neck or too short.
I was wheeled in for a c-section at midnight
We are so proud to be her mommy and daddy.

Our first family picture. Not what I had planned but I wouldn't change it for the world.

We had found out that my doctor was on vacation over the weekend halfway through labor. However, in her place she had asked for the head of OB/GYN of the hospital to take her place. He was perfect for us and helped us to understand what was going on. He would talk to me and hubby and then would talk to the family. What a special man.

Update: Hubby's birthday is the 5th. Kendalyn was born on the 6th. She was trying to make it in time to sing Happy Birthday but she made her own debut.
So glad Baby K made it safely! In the end, it really is all that we can ask as Mom's is a healthy baby. While it may not have been what you envisioned, your first family picture is beautiful!

ReplyDeleteGood job Mama!
I loved reading this. I'm so glad that everything went well even if it wasn't how you thought it would be! The doctor sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Love all the pictures! And now I can hit you up with questions about what a C-section is like, because I am admittedly a little nervous about it. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I have to say two things...first, LOVE the Gig 'Em pic! I think I'll have to get one of those for sure! :)
Second...it is SO unfair how beautiful you looked! I could tell you had little or no makeup on before you left the house, and you looked GORGEOUS!
Okay, go enjoy baby K! Love love!!
